How to Save iPhone Contacts in +Country Code Format

Organization Specialist
Saving iPhone contacts with +country code format makes them easier to use when traveling, messaging internationally, or sharing contacts between apps.
The goal is to store the number as a global address, not only as a number that works from your current location.
Use the plus sign first
Open the contact, edit the phone number, and start with + followed by the country code. For a US number, that means +1 and the ten-digit number. For a UK mobile, it means +44 7 and the remaining digits.
On many iPhone keypads, holding 0 enters the plus sign.
Remove local-only prefixes
If a number is written with a domestic trunk prefix, remove it when adding the country code. UK 07123 456789 becomes +44 7123 456789. German 030 123456 becomes +49 30 123456.
Do not keep both the country code and the domestic leading zero unless the country's rules specifically require it.
Check messaging apps after saving
After saving the international version, reopen Phone, Messages, FaceTime, or WhatsApp and confirm the contact resolves correctly.
If a messaging app still shows a duplicate, refresh contacts or merge duplicate contact cards.
For iPhone contacts, +country code format is the most portable choice. It reduces failed calls and makes contacts cleaner across voice, messaging, and travel use.
